Notebook

Fujitsu U Series

Built upon the tiny Fujitsu U1010, the U2010 and U/B850 are Fujitsu's most powerful UMPCs to date. Weighing just 1.3 lbs, the new Fujitsu has an equally impressive 5.6" screen with the highest resolution we have seen on a UMPC, 1280x800 pixels. Use it as a miniature laptop or rotate the screen and the U makes a super portable tablet PC.
The U series is based on the speedy Intel Atom processor running at 1.6 GHz and its battery is rated at 3.5 hours. Other specs include 1GB max RAM, 60 GB HDD (or optional 120gb and 64gb SSD), 2 USB ports, and a VGA/LAN adapter.

Toshiba RX2

Toshiba RX2 Since business travelers long for a notebook to be incredibly light and small but large enough for a 12" screen and 17mm (or better) keypitch keyboard, come equipped with a solid-state drive, super multi-DVD, and have the power of Intel's Core 2 Duo CPU, Toshiba put their engineers to the task, to conventional wisdom (and some would say cost restraints) out the window, and crafted this seminal ultralight notebook.

The RX2 boasts a high-quality wide aspect ratio (1280x800) 12.1" LED-backlit display. LED backlighting provides both more luminescence and longer battery life. This crisp display gives you a little extra desktop workspace, and it is great for watching videos.

Its mechanical hard drive has been replaced by a 128GB solid-state drive. Solid-state drives are more expensive, but offer some great advantages: faster performance, less battery usage, and greater reliability. Unlike mechanical hard drives, SSDs are unlikely to lose data in the event that your computer is dropped. In general, Toshiba boasts its durability including water resistance. (It is not waterPROOF and does not have warranty coverage for water damage.)

A specially designed 7mm thick super multi-DVD module helps it to become the world's lightest notebook with integrated optical drive. It weighs 1.88 pounds (848g) and is only 0.77 in. (19.5mm) thick.

The Toshiba RX2 features a low-voltage Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 1.4GHz and 3GB of RAM. That CPU helps it to achieve, despite its lightness, an impressive 6-hour standard and 12-hour enhanced, battery life. (Manufacturer list times should be approximately halved to estimate real-world performance.)

Lenovo ThinkPad X300

The ThinkPad x300 brings a 13.3" widescreen to a 3-pound package. Dynamism has long been the retail pioneer of ultra-thin and lightweight notebooks, and a decade ago we brought you the groundbreaking (for its time) IBM ThinkPad PC110. We think the Lenovo ThinkPad x300 offers another great leap forward in mobile computing.

With a 64gb solid-state drive, integrated DVD burner (optional), and great portability, this is a great business traveler's platform. The 13.3" widescreen offers impressive 1440 x 900 resolution, which is higher than competitors in a similar category. It also offers a removable battery, three USB ports, Ethernet, wi-fi, and Bluetooth.

Panasonic F-Series

Panasonic's thinnest, lightest-weight Toughbook computers are a smart choice for busy professionals. These sleek, slimline laptops have a resilient magnesium alloy case, spill resistant keyboard, and up to 9 hours of battery life. Equally at home on a plane or in a boardroom, they're designed for on-the-go executives and are engineered to handle all the drops and bumps of daily business life.

The Panasonic F series is the latest Toughbook with a built-in carrying handle. Available in six colors, the Panasonic F is a powerhouse with Intel's Core 2 Duo, up to 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD, and a drop resistant case. The F series comes standard with a large 14.1" WXGA+ screen, built-in DVD-RW and weighs just 3.7 lbs.

Inspiron Mini 10 finally shows up at Dell's website

In one of the most bizarre sequences of events we can recall, Dell's Inspiron Mini 10 has finally arrived on its maker's website. And this is after being briefly (and we stress "briefly") unveiled in a 3- x 3-foot cubical at CES, being impersonated at Tecso by the smaller Mini 9 and showing up early on QVC. Yeah, weird. At any rate, we knew that the Round Rock powerhouse was looking to offer this pup up for sale starting on the 26th, so we figure now is a perfect time to host up a holding place in order to get people informed. As we'd heard, it'll sport a 10.1-inch display, 802.11b/g WiFi, optional Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI out, an external DVD drive, upwards of 160GB of HDD space, 1GB of RAM, a keyboard that's 92 percent the size of a standard laptop (that's the same as on ASUS' Eee PC 1000HE, by the way), a multitouch trackpad, 720p media playback, optional WWAN, an internal TV tuner and your choice of a 3-cell (3 hours) or 6-cell (6.5 hours) battery. Yummy!

Aspire One A150

Photos of a black Acer Aspire One with a 6-cell battery pack have emerged, believed to be the Aspire One A150. The photos are by Flickr user unten44; specifications of the netbook are in keeping with the current Aspire One netbook range, with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard-drive. In fact, the only key difference other than the case color is the battery life, which Acer rate for up to 6hrs use.

acer_aspire_one_black_1-480x317

The Aspire One A150 has three USB 2.0 ports, VGA output, audio in/out and dual memory card readers. It also has WiFi a/b/g and wired ethernet, and weighs 1.26kg with the new, double-capacity battery (that’s 160g more than the 3-cell variants). User feedback suggests around 5hrs runtime from the larger pack.

It’s already available, priced at ($498) and to be, at least initially, the only way to get a black netbook from Acer. You can see our review of the Acer Aspire One here.
